Preparing for a C-Section:
A Practical Guide for Parents

A clear, calm guide to understanding scheduled or planned C-section birth, recovery, and the first hours with your baby.

If a cesarean birth may be part of your story, preparing

ahead of time can make a big difference.

A Letter to Parents-To-Be

If you’re reading this, there’s a good chance a cesarean birth is part of your story.

For some families, a C-section is planned months in advance. For others, it becomes part of the plan later in pregnancy. And for many parents, it’s something they never expected to think about at all.

However it unfolds, preparing ahead of time can make a big difference.

Over the years working with pregnant families—as both a Labor & Delivery nurse and now as a doctor of acupuncture specializing in prenatal and postpartum care—I’ve noticed something again and again: many parents heading into a C-section have a lot of questions, but very few resources that walk them through the experience in a calm, practical way.

Most of the information available focuses on the surgery itself.

Much less is said about the experience of the birth—the moments before surgery, meeting your baby in the operating room, the first hours after birth, and how to recover comfortably afterward.

I created these handouts to help fill that gap.

My hope is that these pages help you feel prepared, informed, and able to advocate for the kind of birth experience you want, while still trusting your medical team to guide the clinical decisions.

Warmly,
